My experience of varied dance forms allows me to infuse that fluidity of movement into my yoga practice and teaching. My work in a theological environment helps guide my life and yoga practice and combined with my public speaking skills, allows me to convey a well-rounded practice to my yoga students. Through these skills I hope to provide students with an opportunity to experience this ancient practice with gentleness, humour and compassion.
I work to create an environment of self-acceptance and personal growth adapting the postures to suit the unique needs of each student. Intrigued by the power of yoga to transform the body, mind and spirit, I consider the yoga classroom to be not only a sacred space but also a laboratory where individuals can safely explore their physical and emotional selves through asana and meditation.
I encourage students to enjoy the yoga journey while being patient and gentle with themselves. I love being a part of each student’s personal journey.
I am committed to always being a student of yoga through ongoing training and education in order to bring students the best in yoga instruction.
I am a certified 200 hr Yoga teacher with a Degree in Human Kinetics and 20 years of Personal Training experience. I have a deep understanding of how the body works and a strong desire to help you achieve your goals and feel your best!
I teach with passion and enthusiasm. My goal is to show up for my students and hold a space where they feel comfortable to explore their body, their mind and their breath. My classes are alignment based and designed to fit your needs and abilities as individuals. I am energetic in my teaching and hope you leave my classes feeling refreshed, revitalized and renewed!
Yoga has taught me Mindfulness and Non Attachment to the things around us. As I move through my own journey I hope that my knowledge and teaching can allow you to let go of the things that no longer serve you. Know that you are exactly where you need to be, you have all the time you need and you are enough!
I offer a supportive, calm, fun and inclusive environment for exploration.
Students can expect a class that both challenges and nourishes the body and mind that they can experience the sense of accomplishment and rejuvenation at the same time after each of my class.
Together, let’s discover a deeper level of awareness, and through that connect our highest self, and the best of ourselves.
Namaste yogis! My name is Dal. I originally embarked on my yogic journey almost 20 years ago, in an effort to escape the stresses of daily life. Upon acknowledging the many benefits of my practise, I was inspired to share the gift of yoga with others.
I am certified to teach hatha, vinyasa, yin, and kundalini yoga, in addition to breathwork, and mindfulness meditation. I lead classes with the intention of helping students let go of “stuff”, and create space within themselves, to foster physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. I believe that such growth can eventually lead students to connect to their true, authentic self.
My classes can be both vigorous and relaxing, but always emphasize “sthira” (steadiness), and “sukha” (ease). I invite students to connect to their own spirituality, as I chant sacred mantras during Savasna.
I trust my classes will give you the opportunity to take pause from the external world, and move towards your internal world, where you can truly be present with what is.
Mariko is a true believer that yoga is an opportunity for all students to explore their ability to heal and grow. Her desire is to have students feel supported in a space where positive change is possible simply by breathing and moving the body. With focus on proper alignment, breath, and awareness of the body, Mariko hopes students will feel empowered, open and safe to be themselves no matter what stage they’re at!
To me, yoga is medicine.
My yogic journey began early in life thanks to my aunt. She showed me that there is so much more to life than the problems we think are so big, that there is this huge universe all around which we are deeply connected to. The teachings of yoga quickly became a source of joy and
connection to my body and life!
Later in life I struggled with anxiety and depression and it wasn’t until I came back to my practice that I reconnected to this familiar feeling of peace and light. I made a commitment to myself to serve others by sharing my medicine and to do it with my voice. I signed up for 200hr teacher training with Blissology, quit my corporate job and dove in head first. Since then I am continuing my studies with Yoga and Ayurveda, deepening my education with Blissology on the path to my 500hr accreditation and loving every moment!
When you practice with me expect to feel a deep connection to yourself, to each other and to this great big beautiful planet of ours. Each class is unique, bring your open mind, a sense of childlike curiosity, prepare to work hard and have fun, after all Yoga is a feeling not a shape!
I knew for years that I should probably do yoga, but never got around to it. “Who has the time?!” I would say, as I juggled full-time work in health care with raising three children. However, my usual workouts were starting to increase my muscle tension and aggravate my joints. Finally in 2011 I took my first vinyasa yoga class and loved how my body felt afterwards.
With time, yoga became more than just about the postures. I noticed, initially without realizing it, that yoga was changing me on the inside too. I was becoming more patient, less reactive and more comfortable in my own skin.
Now I am excited to be teaching what I love! Expect a physically challenging class, accessible to all levels, with creative sequencing, incorporating meditation and breath work.
Students will leave class sweaty, refreshed, and ready to face the rest of their day.
I opened this studio to welcome and share the passion I have for yoga. As a teacher, I do a daily practice to maintain my strength, inspiration, and integrity so I can support my students on a path of discovering their true self. I teach with strength, passion and fire.
I have an authentic and no non-sense approach to yoga where my classes are enjoyable, but continuously evolving and challenging. My practice offers meditation to discover self-awareness followed by a dynamic flow challenging student to reach their full potential and guiding them to connect breathe with movement. I encourage students to embrace the unknown, so they can explore, express and discover their inner strength.
I always say yoga discovered me when I moved to Tsawwassen over 12 years ago. I tried out my first class and got hooked. Now, I am a student for life who is deeply devoted to always learning and being inspired by fellow teachers and students. After completing my 200 hours three years ago, I was teaching and pursuing 300 more hours of learning, which I completed this year.
I will leave you with my favorite quote that I turn to for inspiration…“Let nothing dim the light that shines from within” by Maya Angelou.
Join me on the mat.
